Hello Steve,

I'm the author of TinyBrowser and I happened upon your blog when another user emailed me about Elgg / TinyMCE integration.

I posted some information in the TinyBrowser Google Group to assist with Elgg integration - you might find it useful http://groups.google.com/group/tinybrowser/browse_thread/thread/8da6351c7402b7bb.

Please let me know how you get on, and if you're stuck feel free to email me directly and I'll try to assist.

Best Regards,

Bryn.

Good question. I've wondered that myself as I'd rather leave the core untouched. I can't see how that could be done, but I posted that question to the elgg developers google group.

I've worked on the file browser myself, but I am stuck on some file path issues and exactly where to insert a bit of javascript. I find that much of the documentation assumes I know more than I do. Often one tidbit of information missing or unclear can be show stopper.

That's the focus of this blog--to fill in the gaps--when I find them!

Thanks for the advice and helpfull links.I dont know if i will still use Elgg but after digging a bit deeper it seems like a wonderfull platform to build and learn from.

Managed to edit the home page but only by directly editing the core index.php.Any ideas on how to create an plugin that will allow others to easily make simple and similar changes?

Doesnt seem to work by just adding an index.php into the mod folder...

Not much succes with the file browsers integration yet.

keep well

Thanks. I'll delete those files shortly for my next release. I'm not using tortoise svn, rather, I use svn on my server.

Hi Steve,

just a quick note, most probably u are using Tortoise SVN under Windows.
If u already know ab it, then please ignore it.

Dont copy from svn folder, use right click -> export instead. If u copy there is also .svn (hidden folder) copied as well.

(I found .svn folder within zip theme)

Saludos

Thanks. I'm glad I've helped. I am not really a coder so much as a code hacker. I am really not adept at php, but I know enough to get things by trial and error.

I'll try to help with your questions:

There are Tinymce plugins that allow you to upload files. Tinymce wants you to pay for theirs, although there are free alternatives. I have not tried them, but Ajax File Manager and TinyBrowser look interesting. The latter appears to be simpler to implement. That being said, Elgg Developer Dave Tosh recommended trying to hack TextArea to give access to files uploaded in Elgg.

I may give TinyBrowser a try.

To edit the home page, you need to look at index.php in the elgg root.

As far as control over groups--I am sure that it is possible, but for the moment, it is beyond me,

Thanks for all your information and effort with the Elgg project, you are the most usefull source of information i've found in this area.

I'm thinking of doing my next project with Elgg. Thanks to you i have had some succes with developing themes, but there are a few questions i would like to ask:

1. How would you add the ability to browse and upload a file to the default TinyMCE editor.

2.How would you change the content on the home page from "Latest Activity" and "Login"? The pageshell seems to refer to ['body'] for this information.(not much experience with php)

3.Is there a way to gain more control over user groups?Letting some users us specific plugins and others not?

Thanks again for your help, this site is a great resource!
