Actually plenty of politicians in NYS government are tweeting about their private and public meetings using Twitter. It's a way to stay informed about what's doing and participate if I want. Check out these tweeters: Tom_Suozzi, Nassau County Executive, RepSteveIsrael, Congressman, EricGioia, NYC Councilman, Sen. Carl Marcellino (Senator98). Transparency is key (even if you can control your own tweets)...

We'll add NYC DOE's tweeting to the list of reasons NYSED should.

I think Twitter has made the transition from toy to tool, but that is not everyone's perception to be sure.

Compared to others, it is a simple tool, so its a great place for them to start. They could keep it simple by summarizing whatever they are releasing already into 140 characters including a link to the full document. They could lock it so no nefarious parties could follow them.

Thanks for chiming in!

I came across this post on Classroom 2.0, and had a chuckle. I work for the NYC DOE (which does tweet), but see exactly where you're coming from.

I wonder if twitter has yet to make the full transition from toy to tool? (think facebook a few years ago).

Keep us posted.
