FBLA Presentations

I had the privilege of presenting at our school’s Future Business Leaders of America’s District Meeting in Greenwich, NY today. I had a great time presenting and meeting students and faculty. I hope to participate again.

As promised, I am uploading and displaying the contents of my presentations here.

There there is a lot of content on this page, so allow a few seconds for the presentations to load. Click to proceed through the presentations.

I really enjoyed your talk on better presentations, primarily because I am terrible at it myself.

In your presentation on building websites I think you meant javascript rather than java. They are very different languages and javascript is the one that you’ll find in things like WordPress and Elgg. You can build websites in java, but you have to be completely insane to do so.

Also worth mentioning things like Python and Ruby, since I find that writing sites in them is much more fun than PHP and you’ll find plenty of open source web apps written in them.

My bad on the JAVA–I’ll fix that. I knew that, but that last slide was admittedly done in haste. I’m not really much the programmer, and just mentioned the ones I have dealt with, but you are right, Ruby and Python should have been included as they are becoming much more prevalent.

I must say though, it still amazes me how few have any idea about the ease with which websites can be created with open source software.
