Waiting eagerly for the release of Elgg 1.0. All my work with Elgg is on the backburner until the new release. I still am not sure what this new open architecture means.

I upgraded my server to php5, mySQL5, and Apache 2.2 so that I could get Folio to work on Elgg. Aside from that, it is was time to make the leap as php4 is no longer supported. talk about unintended consequences!
At first, it broke MediaWiki, Drupal, and Elgg. No big deal, I just had to click on a few more extensions and rebuild Apache, then they worked. What I didn’t realize at first was that it broke Zen Cart, a shopping cart. That had to be upgraded –a major chore. All looks fine now.

Got Elgg 0.9.1 installed with no problem. It’s time to start looking at configurations and plugins to make it best for a K12 environment. I tried Folio, but it killed the site because I had the wrong version of apache. Time to upgrade the server I guess!

The WordPress “Registered Only” plugin also works with WordPressMU. This plugin restricts viewing the site to registered members making it private. When visitors go to the site, they get a login screen. It is very reliable and is great for student use.
